Gold - named in Latin after the first light of the day - is associated with the festive season. It reappears throughout this Artvent calendar as a material used widely not just for its material value but as a symbolic element that reflects light and brightens interiors. Today we take a look brief look at gold in art with Accredited Lecturer Alexandra Epps.
MAKING A DIFFERENCE
Our Societies support hundreds of local arts and heritage projects. Each day we highlight a grant given in 2021.
We Can Dance, which provides dance lessons for children with learning difficulties in the North East, was recently awarded a grant from The Arts Society Wensleydale. The dance lessons bring music and movement to young people with special educational needs, autism, physical disabilities, sensory impairment and behavioral difficulties.
All donations from the Artvent Calendar will go towards The Arts Society’s grant giving fund, which awards grants to help preserve our artistic heritage, support the skills of artists and makers, and improve access to the arts for all.

Thank you for Day 4, the 'gold' talk was great!
The golden lecture cheered me up no end. It worked as well as my SAD lamp which I had forgotten to turn on this morning as I checked my emails. Thank you very much - I am loving this Artvent Calendar.
Loving Artvent in the run up to this Christmas. Brilliant idea. A wonderful escape and a little bit of me time each day. Coffee and a mince pie whilst clicking another Artvent day......perfect! Thank you
