Corona Borealis

The Corona Borealis is one of the few constellation of stars visible with the naked eye. In Europe we refer to it as the Northern Crown and there are references to these stars all the way back to the 2nd century. In art the story of Bacchus and Ariadne often depicts the Northern Crown and in this talk accredited lecturer Mariska Beekenkamp-Wladimiroff explains the story and how we can find it in a Dutch painting from the 17th century.

MAKING A DIFFERENCE

Our Societies support hundreds of local arts and heritage projects. Each day we highlight a grant given in 2021.

The sixth form art department of Prince Henry's High School, Evesham has received a grant from The Arts Society Evesham and Pershore. This grant would enable the art department to fund drawing classes for A-Level students with an experienced local artist.

All donations from the Artvent Calendar will go towards The Arts Society’s grant giving fund, which awards grants to help preserve our artistic heritage, support the skills of artists and makers, and improve access to the arts for all.

My thanks go to the brilliant person / team who came up with the idea for the AS Advent calendar and to all those who executed it so very well. As always your accredited lecturers did not disappoint. I thoroughly enjoyed all the lectures - something to look forward to each day. With very best wishes to one and all for a happy and healthy 2022.
Kind regards,
Joy Hamilton

I really feel I must write to say how very much I have enjoyed the calendar. What with Covid & a cancer it was something to look forward to every day in December. On reading the comments I see I am just adding to the number of all those who are congratulating you on such a wonderful idea.
Thank you to all those who, again, have put so much thought & work into an Arts Society project.

Thanks so much to all concerned for these wonderful lectures. I have already made a point of going to the National Gallery to study more closely art which I wouldn't normally look at. Hopefully, I can return to Amsterdam one day soon.

Have really enjoyed "artvent". Also the 80 days talks. Both were a bright spark in otherwise long days. Thank you very much.
