Gold - named in Latin after the first light of the day - is associated with the festive season. It reappears throughout this Artvent calendar as a material used widely not just for its material value but as a symbolic element that reflects light and brightens interiors. Today we take a look brief look at gold in art with Accredited Lecturer Alexandra Epps.
MAKING A DIFFERENCE
Our Societies support hundreds of local arts and heritage projects. Each day we highlight a grant given in 2021.
We Can Dance, which provides dance lessons for children with learning difficulties in the North East, was recently awarded a grant from The Arts Society Wensleydale. The dance lessons bring music and movement to young people with special educational needs, autism, physical disabilities, sensory impairment and behavioral difficulties.
All donations from the Artvent Calendar will go towards The Arts Society’s grant giving fund, which awards grants to help preserve our artistic heritage, support the skills of artists and makers, and improve access to the arts for all.

What a wonderful description and interpretation of all things gold. Exactly what is needed on a grey gloomy day! Thank you
What a glittering lecture!
Great lecture, wonderful explanation of arrival of Baroque to London and the influence of Charles I - magnificent art and architecture which we can still admire today.
The Artvent is such a wonderful idea. Thank you for the "Golden Talk".
Thank you too, for the lectures during lockdown and a very Merry Christmas to you all from Auckland.
Beautiful just what I needed .
Merry Christmas to all from Melbourne Australia
Hi Julia,
If you click on "home" at the top of the page, this will take you to a page showing all the days numbered in sequence. If you 'click' on the day you want, the day's page will open and you can view the content. You will only be able to open days that have passed, future dates will show a "wait" message so no cheating allowed! If you have allowed 'cookies' on your machine (and don't delete them), days you have viewed will show a picture of the content rather than a simple purple square and day number. Hope this helps.
I, too, missed Day 3 and cannot find it. What banner do we have to click on when we miss a day?
Really think I have found all there are!
And gold was one of the gifts offered by the Wise Men to the infant Jesus, so often portrayed in art
What a beautiful picture, a great artist.
