The most beloved American illustrator of the 20th century always portrayed life as he wished it would be. And so it was that Norman Rockwell was most at home portraying the ideal family Christmas often with direct connections to Dickens and the English Yuletide Tradition. A bounty of Christmas posters, magazine covers, cards and even Norman Rockwell Christmas gifts will keep you entertained throughout. Your American-born Accredited Lecturer Charles Harris shares his own experiences of the ideal American Christmas from sleigh rides and ice-skating in the woods to trimming the tree and wondering how Santa got down the chimney. Light and lively Christmas fare!
MAKING A DIFFERENCE
Our Societies support hundreds of local arts and heritage projects. Each day we highlight a grant given in 2021.
The Arts Society City of Chichester has made a donation to Children's Bookfest Chichester which will enable the purchase of fifty books for primary children.
All donations from the Artvent Calendar will go towards The Arts Society’s grant giving fund, which awards grants to help preserve our artistic heritage, support the skills of artists and makers, and improve access to the arts for all.

This was a really soft and gentle message to us all that Christmas can be like the times we enjoyed as children - family, food and simple fun. Thank you
This was super. Rockwell really captured the true spirit of Christmas. Can’t wait for the rest of the windows to open.
I do like Rockwells work.
A most informative talk.
Like a fireside chat! Loved it.
I hadn't realised what a wonderful artist he was.
Thank you to all those making these very enjoyable presentations. I am also learning more each day.
What an absolutely lovely talk! It brought back so many memories of Xmas in my childhood. We need more Norman Rockwells to remind this consumer society of what pleasures a simple Xmas can bring. Thank you Artvent!
