Light art is a visual art form in which light is the main medium of expression. It is an art form in which either a sculpture produces light, or light is used to create a "sculpture" through the manipulation of light, colours, and shadows. These sculptures can be temporary or permanent, and can exist in two distinctive spaces: indoor galleries, such as museum exhibits, or outdoors at events like festivals. Light art can be an interaction of light within an architectural space. One of the leading light artists of our time is James Turrell: enjoy a brief introduction to his work in this film produced by the Guggenheim Museum.
MAKING A DIFFERENCE
Our Societies support hundreds of local arts and heritage projects. Each day we highlight a grant given in 2021.
The Arts Society Harpenden Evening is funding six art therapy sessions organised by Keech Hospice Care, which supports individuals and families in Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire through cancer diagnoses and more recently those bereaved during the pandemic.
All donations from the Artvent Calendar will go towards The Arts Society’s grant giving fund, which awards grants to help preserve our artistic heritage, support the skills of artists and makers, and improve access to the arts for all.

You can view any Youtube video in "full screen" on your device if you 'click' on the "square" symbol in the bottom right hand corner of the video window (If you 'hover' over the symbol text will appear saying "Full screen"). 'Click' the "cross" symbol, which replaces that square symbol when viewing in full screen, to return to the normal screen size.
A pity only a small screen for a talk on light!
What would have been excellent is to take a theme and work on that for a week
A new perspective for me - so intriguing!
Whoever selected these daily delights has done a superb job of enlightening and entertaining us across a wide and diverse range of art related subjects and mediums. Well done to you :)
So very beautiful and interesting - thank you for bringing this wonderful artist to my attention.
That was both beautiful and interesting. Thank-you.
A spiritual and ethereal experience. So educational to hear from the creator himself.
Thank you - the Artvent Series has been a lovely way to start the day and very interesting and thought-provoking. A triumph for the Arts Society - please do this again next year!
