Corona Borealis

The Corona Borealis is one of the few constellation of stars visible with the naked eye. In Europe we refer to it as the Northern Crown and there are references to these stars all the way back to the 2nd century. In art the story of Bacchus and Ariadne often depicts the Northern Crown and in this talk accredited lecturer Mariska Beekenkamp-Wladimiroff explains the story and how we can find it in a Dutch painting from the 17th century.

MAKING A DIFFERENCE

Our Societies support hundreds of local arts and heritage projects. Each day we highlight a grant given in 2021.

The sixth form art department of Prince Henry's High School, Evesham has received a grant from The Arts Society Evesham and Pershore. This grant would enable the art department to fund drawing classes for A-Level students with an experienced local artist.

All donations from the Artvent Calendar will go towards The Arts Society’s grant giving fund, which awards grants to help preserve our artistic heritage, support the skills of artists and makers, and improve access to the arts for all.

A wonderful journey, learning something new every day. I have so enjoyed your Artvent calendar, and the 80 Days around the World, and hopefully look forward to future journeys even as we gain normality in our lives in the year to come.
A very happy new year to everyone....

I have so enjoyed this series of lectures, thank you to all the lecturers and TAS for arranging the calendar. The 'deconstruction' of The Twelve days Of Christmas brought a smile and the close examination of paintings has been a real treat. Introductions to customs from other cultures was enlightening as was the history of some Christmas traditions. The calendar has been a daily must watch, thank you all.

What a fabulous treat we have had opening a window each day with the Artvent calendar, and ending with this lovely presentation of the stars we represent.
