Corona Borealis

The Corona Borealis is one of the few constellation of stars visible with the naked eye. In Europe we refer to it as the Northern Crown and there are references to these stars all the way back to the 2nd century. In art the story of Bacchus and Ariadne often depicts the Northern Crown and in this talk accredited lecturer Mariska Beekenkamp-Wladimiroff explains the story and how we can find it in a Dutch painting from the 17th century.

Our Societies support hundreds of local arts and heritage projects. Each day we highlight a grant given in 2021.

The sixth form art department of Prince Henry's High School, Evesham has received a grant from The Arts Society Evesham and Pershore. This grant would enable the art department to fund drawing classes for A-Level students with an experienced local artist.

All donations from the Artvent Calendar will go towards The Arts Society’s grant giving fund, which awards grants to help preserve our artistic heritage, support the skills of artists and makers, and improve access to the arts for all.

It’s been wonderful. Thank you so much to all who gave us a little window of light through the dark days. I’m pleased beyond words that it’s given so much joy to so many people.

Thank you for this wonderful series. Each one has been part of a lovely journey to Christmas and the end of the year. I hope it will become a regular addition to the season. Well done AS and Happy New Year to you all.

Thank you Marissa of the last talk about the Northern Crown and to the Arts Society for the whole of the ARTvent delivery. It’s been so good for us, much better than a chocolate Advent calendar!
Happy New Year everyone!

Thank you for all these interesting videos. There is just so much within the art world that we can learn. Happy New Year to all who have been involved.

Such a treat to see and listen to a new topic everyday, and all so varied. Thank you so much for making this happen. I thoroughly enjoyed the Artvent Calendar.

I am sad to think that this informative and enjoyable treat is the last one in the series. It has been such fun discovering something new every day, and I hope that we have a similar calendar next year too—ie the talk on Thames Frost Fairs, that first introduced me to AS.
Thank you so much to all concerned—Happy New Year!

I particularly enjoyed this one, but everyday is a new experience. Thank you to everyone concerned and
A Very Happy New Year!
