Corona Borealis

The Corona Borealis is one of the few constellation of stars visible with the naked eye. In Europe we refer to it as the Northern Crown and there are references to these stars all the way back to the 2nd century. In art the story of Bacchus and Ariadne often depicts the Northern Crown and in this talk accredited lecturer Mariska Beekenkamp-Wladimiroff explains the story and how we can find it in a Dutch painting from the 17th century.

MAKING A DIFFERENCE

Our Societies support hundreds of local arts and heritage projects. Each day we highlight a grant given in 2021.

The sixth form art department of Prince Henry's High School, Evesham has received a grant from The Arts Society Evesham and Pershore. This grant would enable the art department to fund drawing classes for A-Level students with an experienced local artist.

All donations from the Artvent Calendar will go towards The Arts Society’s grant giving fund, which awards grants to help preserve our artistic heritage, support the skills of artists and makers, and improve access to the arts for all.

What a treasure trove of winter knowledge has been shared. I have loved all the different subjects and it has been a absolute pleasure to be educated by experts. Thank you for putting this together. I really hope there will be something similar throughout the year.
Thanks too for today's talk on the Corona Borealis, a lovely story.

I have thoroughly enjoyed opening my AS email every morning in Dec. Have learnt so much by just listening for a few minutes and loved all the different subjects with links to Christmas and winter. Thank you for putting it together during this e rather depressing period leading up to Christmas.
