Hanukkah is a Jewish festival commemorating the recovery of Jerusalem and subsequent rededication of the Second Temple at the beginning of the Maccabean revolt against the Seleucid Empire in the 2nd century BCE. It is also known as the Festival of Lights. Music plays a key part in the celebration of this festival, so we've selected a recording of the traditional Hanukkah song Ner Li as today's gift. Happy Hanukkah.
MAKING A DIFFERENCE
Our Societies support hundreds of local arts and heritage projects. Each day we highlight a grant given in 2021.
King John's House and Heritage Centre in Romsey is receiving financial support from The Arts Society Romsey for a project which involves carrying out a digital replacement of original documents, diaries and photos from their collection. The Society has worked with the museum for some years.
All donations from the Artvent Calendar will go towards The Arts Society’s grant giving fund, which awards grants to help preserve our artistic heritage, support the skills of artists and makers, and improve access to the arts for all.
