Today, Accredited Lecturer Leslie Primo puts the spotlight on Giotto's Adoration of the Magi and explores how the artist humanised one of the most famous stories from the Bible through his depiction of the three wise men.
MAKING A DIFFERENCE
Our Societies support hundreds of local arts and heritage projects. Each day we highlight a grant given in 2021.
The Arts Society West Essex has recently awarded a grant to Revitalize, a national charity providing respite care for disabled people. The funds will go towards activities including pottery classes, arts and craft sessions, flower arranging and theatre trips.
All donations from the Artvent Calendar will go towards The Arts Society’s grant giving fund, which awards grants to help preserve our artistic heritage, support the skills of artists and makers, and improve access to the arts for all.

Fascinating. My favourite so far!
Many thanks to Leslie Primo for such a fascinating lecture. We were particularly interested to hear his reference to Psalms as this must have been a prophesy.
I wonder what aspects Fran found disappointing. I learnt a lot about the wise men/kings and the internal hierarchy depicted, as well as how the artist used techniques to depict human beings with bodily flesh and bulk. There was quite a lot packed into the 5 minutes or so available to the lecturer given these are meant to be little "gems" rather than in-depth explanations.
Wonderful painting; lecture disappointing.
Thank you for such an another interesting lecture. I am so enjoying this advent calendar!
Thank you for this lecture - so interesting and informative. Looking at Giotto's picture at the same time put it into life and made it easy to follow.
