Angel of the North

Possibly the largest angel in the world, the Angel of the North commemorates the miners who worked in the area, but also reflects the spiritual aspects of Antony Gormley's personality and his fascination with the human body. Accredited Lecturer Frank Woodgate explains Gormley's vision

MAKING A DIFFERENCE

Our Societies support hundreds of local arts and heritage projects. Each day we highlight a grant given in 2021.

The National Horse Racing Museum has received a grant from The Arts Society Newmarket. The world home of horse racing, it informs the local community about the history of racing and offers temporary and permanent exhibitions, education, workshops and open days for the local and wider community. The grant will be used to offer free entry and activities to families living in poverty.

All donations from the Artvent Calendar will go towards The Arts Society’s grant giving fund, which awards grants to help preserve our artistic heritage, support the skills of artists and makers, and improve access to the arts for all.

Enjoyed the info, but disappointed there wasn’t pictures to show the field of figures etc , which wouldn’t have taken much effort to do.
Really enjoying the advent calendar as my husband and I watch it every day. Thank you

I was really pleased to hear this, having seen a lot of gormley’s work really interesting

Good to learn about Gormley and his work, I would have liked more images. The lack of images drew attention to the fact that the speaker was reading his script and not making eye contact. Pity

Thank you

Frank, thank you for bringing this wonderful piece of art to life in commemoration of the miners, indeed the supporters of Newcastle United should be proud.

Informative talk, but frustrated at lack of illustrations!

Interesting short lecture but only two photos which was disappointing.

The talk needed more visuals in it...eg of the other pieces of art that the lecturer spoke about.
