Angel of the North

Possibly the largest angel in the world, the Angel of the North commemorates the miners who worked in the area, but also reflects the spiritual aspects of Antony Gormley's personality and his fascination with the human body. Accredited Lecturer Frank Woodgate explains Gormley's vision

MAKING A DIFFERENCE

Our Societies support hundreds of local arts and heritage projects. Each day we highlight a grant given in 2021.

The National Horse Racing Museum has received a grant from The Arts Society Newmarket. The world home of horse racing, it informs the local community about the history of racing and offers temporary and permanent exhibitions, education, workshops and open days for the local and wider community. The grant will be used to offer free entry and activities to families living in poverty.

All donations from the Artvent Calendar will go towards The Arts Society’s grant giving fund, which awards grants to help preserve our artistic heritage, support the skills of artists and makers, and improve access to the arts for all.

All the lectures have been interesting in their own ways and I have very much enjoyed this artvent. Thank you so much for making it possible. I too would have liked more illustrations with today’s lecture.

A brilliant collection of talks. Each day holds a brief moment of delight in the ever darkening scenario of Omicron. Thank you to everyone involved.
A grand Advent Calendar, which has been hugely appreciated . Salute to the Sun on its return.

THANK YOU

Thank you Frank for a most interesting lecture. Having stood under The Angel and appreciated its commemoration of the miners who'd worked underneath with such endurance, I also love Gormley's statement that we temporarily live in our bodies as a house. So true!

How lucky we all are to be able to use Google as a follow up, and resource for images, to this interesting Advent length lecture. Thank you Frank Woodgate.

Thank you for the fascinating talk on Anthony Gormley - I have been a fan ever since the Angel was erected and have been to many of his exhibitions.

Yes, I agree we needed far more visuals, it is not easy to give a lecture to a computer screen and I have sympathy with them in attempting to do this, some manage to do this well and some don't. However, good to hear about Gormley and makes me want to research him more.
