Our Societies support hundreds of local arts and heritage projects. Each day we highlight a grant given in 2021.
The Arts Society Turners Hill recently awarded a grant to Koestler Arts, the UK’s best-known prison arts charity which encourages people in the criminal justice system to change their lives by participating in the arts.
All donations from the Artvent Calendar will go towards The Arts Society’s grant giving fund, which awards grants to help preserve our artistic heritage, support the skills of artists and makers, and improve access to the arts for all.

And I also share David Yates view that how can something which will burn out and disappear ever evoke hope? Surely quite the opposite. It evokes awareness of the mortality, inevitability and insignificance or life. That isn't hope. But it is still beautiful and I love it.
It is a fantastic painting and I love it, and yes it does evoke emotion and atmosphere and nostalgia, and yes I would certainly pay for it if I could afford it which I can't. BUT to say it is aware of its own mortality. Really? It is a candle. It isn't aware of anything, even its own transience.

Francis Outred said that this beautiful painting was just as relevant in 2011 - as far as I am concerned it is even more relevant today, ten years on. We all need some hope in our lives.
